Sparring Competition Rules & Scoring
•Eligibility & Divisions:
Open to all belt ranks, except Tiny Tigers.
Competitors will be placed into divisions of four.
One 1st place, one 2nd place, and two 3rd place medals will be awarded per division.
Belt ranks may be combined for safety, based on size and ability (e.g., white/yellow belts, yellow/green belts).
•Protective Gear Requirements:
All competitors must wear protective gear, including chest protector, headgear, shin
guards, arm guards, and a mouthpiece.
A groin protector is required; failure to wear it results in disqualification.
Black Belts 11 years and older will be allowed light head contact (with 3 points for a successful head kick) (must have a faceguard to compete)
•Match Structure:
Two 1-minute rounds with a 20-second break between rounds.
The winner is determined by the total points at the end of the match.
In the case of a tie after two rounds, there will be an additional Golden Point round where the first competitor to score 2 points wins. If tied again, the judges will decide the winner based on ring control, strategy, and aggression.
•Scoring:
1 point for a punch delivered to the middle part of the chest protector.
2 points for a kick to the chest protector.
3 points for a light head kick (Black Belts 11 & up only).
Excessive contact results in a 3-point deduction.
Penalties:
Penalties include actions like holding, falling, going out of bounds, attacking illegal areas, and unsportsmanlike conduct.
Each penalty gives the opponent 1 point.
Accumulation of 10 penalties results in disqualification.
Safety & Fair Play:
Faceguards are mandatory for Black Belts 11years and older to ensure safety, especially with head contact.
Emphasis is on ensuring accurate weight during registration to provide fair matchups
