Sparring Competition Rules & Scoring

•Eligibility & Divisions:

  • Open to all belt ranks, except Tiny Tigers.

  • Competitors will be placed into divisions of four.

  • One 1st place, one 2nd place, and two 3rd place medals will be awarded per division.

  • Belt ranks may be combined for safety, based on size and ability (e.g., white/yellow belts, yellow/green belts).


•Protective Gear Requirements:

  • All competitors must wear protective gear, including chest protector, headgear, shin

    guards, arm guards, and a mouthpiece.

  • A groin protector is required; failure to wear it results in disqualification.

  • Black Belts 11 years and older will be allowed light head contact (with 3 points for a successful head kick) (must have a faceguard to compete)


•Match Structure:

  • Two 1-minute rounds with a 20-second break between rounds.

  • The winner is determined by the total points at the end of the match.

  • In the case of a tie after two rounds, there will be an additional Golden Point round where the first competitor to score 2 points wins. If tied again, the judges will decide the winner based on ring control, strategy, and aggression.


•Scoring:

  • 1 point for a punch delivered to the middle part of the chest protector.

  • 2 points for a kick to the chest protector.

  • 3 points for a light head kick (Black Belts 11 & up only).

  • Excessive contact results in a 3-point deduction.


Penalties:

  • Penalties include actions like holding, falling, going out of bounds, attacking illegal areas, and unsportsmanlike conduct.

  • Each penalty gives the opponent 1 point.

  • Accumulation of 10 penalties results in disqualification.

Safety & Fair Play:

  • Faceguards are mandatory for Black Belts 11years and older to ensure safety, especially with head contact.

  • Emphasis is on ensuring accurate weight during registration to provide fair matchups
